Next-gen BitDefender solution adds heuristic spam filters

September 6th, 2010

BitDefender 8 SpamDeny, the new antispam solution for Windows
workstations launched today is an advanced email protection tool
which features updated, as well as new filters. “I’m very
satisfied with how this version has turned out, because internal
testing has shown an improvement of over 35% in detection rates,
over the previous version. I would like to take this opportunity
to thank all our users and testers, as we wouldn’t have had such
a great product without their hard work, input and feedback,”
said Nicolae Simon, BitDefender Product Marketing Manager.

The new rules of the updated Heuristic filter will dutifully
trash some new scam spam types, such as Nigerian scams, online
casino scams, lottery scams and fake university diploma offers,
while further reducing the number of false positives.

Additionally, new filters have been included, such as the Image
filter, which is able to recognize and tag images frequently
used in spam e-mail, the URL filter which blocks mail containing
“sneaky” links, and the Charset filter, which will block any
e-mail written in “strange” characters.

Various bells and whistles, such as configuration wizards,
better ways to manage your friends list, and a handy fix that
will disable incoming mail notifications for spam e-mail, so
that Outlook will only signal when legitimate e-mail arrives,
complete the package.

The product is available for evaluation and purchasing as of
today, and is priced at USD 19.95 for a single user license.
BitDefender AntiSpam 7.2 users can, obviously, upgrade to
BitDefender 8 SpamDeny free of charge.

I am a diabetic searching for a website where i can get my test strips for free since i have no insurance.?

August 29th, 2010

I am awaiting some insurance from my job after my period is up and in the mean time I need to see if I can get some test strips for my tester for free and not have to pay all that money out of pocet.

Diabetic here too, with no insurance as well. I haven’t found any place to get the strips for free. There are no programs for it unlike to drugs to control it. If you need help with your medicine google partnership for prescription assistance. I get a 90 day supply for $20. A huge money saving.

As for the strips, I have not had similar luck. But I can tell you that Walmart Sells the Reli-on Tester for about $8 and they have test strips at $20 for 50 and $40 for 100 strips. That’s the cheapest I have found.

You can get by just fine doing a once a day fasting test (before breakfast in the morning) so 50 strips will last a month and a half.

Another thing you can do is look for a medical study. I enrolled in one in March (it runs to August) they are giving me the experimental drug for free during this time and gave me a supply of 100 strips, alcohol pads, lancets and another tester. I test 2 times a day for this study, it is run by Novo Nordisk and the drug is doing wonders.

A possibility is if you are indigent your local public health agency may have a program for you. I have not investigated this because I have too much income (being employed part time). My friend who is HIV positive and out of work gets all of his medicine and related supplies free from the public health agency where he lives in New Jersey. So you might want to check out that route.

Also, the county I live in (Lake County, Florida) and where I used to live (Montgomery County, Maryland) they offer their residents a prescription discount card. Our card is good for 20% off and I inquired and found that it will apply to diabetic testing strips. So this may be an option for cutting down your test strip costs as well.

Addition: I just found a link to a company that may be able to help you with free strips, link below:

Some Of The Best Ever Blog Specific Tools

August 27th, 2010

Blogging is one of the most popular activities people do on the Internet today. According to Technorati, there currently are seventy-five thousand (75,000) new blogs everyday and about 1.2 million new blog updates everyday. As the activity of blogging gets more popular, there will be more and more tools that will be created to specifically address the needs of the blogging population of the Internet users. This article will attempt to catalog some of the best ever blogging tools created for users. To help users find the tools that they need, these blog tools are classified here into four main categories – blog publishing, blog reading, blog searching and the blog toolbox – a collection of tools important to the serious blogger.

Blog publishing

Blog publishing tools can be further categorized into three sub-categories: Online blogging services, do-it-yourself blog publishing platforms, and accessory blog-publishing tools. Blogging services provide the blog engine that you need to get yourself started in blogging as well as the hosting. Though most of the services offer this for free, some of them require that you become paying members in order to fully enjoy all the benefits.

Blogger – Google’s Blogger is one of the earliest blogging services and it helped popularize blogging. It is one of the easiest ways to get started blogging because of the focus on usability and easy blog creation. The Blog this feature, which is integrated in many Google tools, makes posting to Blogger possible in many different situations. It is also integrated with Google’s Adsense advertising program that makes monetization of your blog quick and easy.

TypePad – Typepad is the largest paid-blogging service around. As mentioned, a paid subscription is required to create a blog using the service. It uses the Movable Type blogging technology but it caters more to the non-technical users.

Wordpress.com – one of the newcomers in the online blogging services, Wordpress gets its credibility from the success and popularity of the blogging engine that it uses -Wordpress.

Xanga – Xanga is one of the largest blog-networks, boasting a user base of 27 million users worldwide. It edges over its competitors by offering excellent community features such as blog rings, metros, and a social networking profile system.

MSN Spaces – Although it is relatively a newcomer in the blogging services space, MSN Spaces boasts of a huge user base, because of the ease at which existing MSN services users were able to start blogging. The integration with the rest of MSN’s services (hotmail, messenger) makes Spaces a very good blogging option for the existing users.

Do-it-yourself blogging platforms on the other hand, only provide the blogging engine. Although you have to find your own hosting service, DIY blogging platforms give you more control in configuring your blog. Below are some of the best DIY Blogging platforms.

Movable Type – Movable Type powers TypePad and it adds the usual advantages of a server-side blogging platform: flexibility, more advanced configuration, and total control over your blog.

Wordpress – Wordpress is an increasingly popular open-source blogging platform that is written in PHP and backed by a MySQL database.

Radio Userland – Radio Userland, one of the earliest content management systems used by the pioneering bloggers, is still a good blogging platform choice. It has solid RSS features that include a built-in aggregator. Configuration is done in a desktop web server then it is upstreamed or sync to the web server. This gives the blogger a cached copy of the whole blog.

Blog posting tools are third-party applications that are used to compose and publish blog posts. These tools usually support multiple blogging services and are ideal for those without a persistent Internet connection.

W. Bloggar and BlogJet – these are two of the best blog-posting tools in the market, and both are available for free. They support almost all of the blogging platforms. They do what most web-based posting apps does, including rich text editing, with the added feature of being able to save your drafts offline.

Performancing for Firefox – a Mozilla Firefox extension that allows you to immediately compose a blog post while using the Firefox browser. It is Ideal for active bloggers who use Firefox as their web browser. It automatically saves your unpublished posts.

Blog Reading

RSS/Atom aggregators and other RSS tools belong to this category.

My Yahoo – My Yahoo tried to bring the concept of RSS subscription to the Internet masses. Though it lacks the more advanced features, it serves well as a good aggregator.

Google Reader – Google’s web-based RSS aggregator that features an AJAX-driven user interface. It has a good support for tags or labels, and features a very nice reading interface. One of its best features is its labels-sharing feature that allows you to put aggregated content to your blog.

Bloglines – Bloglines is one of the most widely-used web-based RSS Reader. It uses the traditional two-frame reading interface, and subscriptions are grouped into folders. It has a good blog-suggest feature, that uses linking analysis to suggest which blogs might be of interest to you based on your existing subscription set. You can also share your subscriptions using Bloglines.

Blog Search

Tools used to search information and blogs, and to watch the blogosphere for topics or issues being actively discussed.

Technorati – Technorati is one of the best blog search engine, feature wise, and is indexing over 49.4 million web blogs. It serves as a one-stop shop for those who want to know the current happenings in the blogosphere, including features such as blog ranking based on linking, personal aggregator (for those who login) and many other nifty tools.

Sphere – one of the newcomers in blog search that came even after many other engines have folded down already. It promised to deliver more relevant blog search results, and it rightfully did so, as attested by its early beta testers. It features a “sphere it” feature that allows you automatically query http://sphere.com to see topics that might be related to what you’re currently reading.

Blogger’s Toolbox

A collection of other tools essential to the serious blogger

Mint / Measure Map /Google Analytics – these are three different tools used to analyze your blog statistics. Mint specializes in giving you a big-picture snapshot of your traffic, somewhat lacking in the providing specific details, something that Google Analytics is good at. Analytics can provide detailed information on what’s happening on your blog, which contents are popular, what keywords used in searches that bring you readers, and many others. It features a calendar to specify the time range of the analysis that you want to see. Measure Map, like Analytics is a fresh acquisition of Google, but still in early stages. It somewhat sits in the middle of Mint and Google Map in terms of what information is provided.

Akismet – Akismet is a highly-acclaimed anti-comment spam plugin for Wordpress blogs. It is free for personal use.

Feedburner – Feedburner is a tool that “burns” your RSS feeds in order to add tracking and analysis features. This way you can see statistics regarding your RSS subscribers.

The tools listed above are just a few of the many others that can help users; from those who are just starting to blog to those who want to become even better bloggers. It also includes some tools for searching and aggregating blogs, because a good blogger must learn to watch the blogosphere closely if it wants to be able to make more effective blog contents.

Anyone know of a free wifi signal tester for a wireless network?

August 19th, 2010

Something similar to Airmagnet? I need something that I can see what kind of signal I can get in various sections of a building. Something that I can install on a laptop and use its wifi card to gather data.

How about netstumbler? That’s what I always use.

How To Increase Your Online Sales

August 17th, 2010

Warning: The technique I’m about to share with you here is relatively unheard of. It involves a sneaky viral twist to it that will increase both your website traffic and online sales even if you may have a less-than-desirable product to sell.

How it works: You offer a product online for sale at $97. You list all the features and benefits of your product as well as the glowing testimonials you received from your previous customers or your product testers. Your sales copy is so hot, any human being reading it would have no pulse if he doesn’t order your product straight away.

Okay, we make an exception for those who truly don’t have any money right now. But don’t worry, the technique I’m about to share with you can even help these people.

Suddenly, as your prospect reads through your sales letter and is about to click on the red hot and waiting order button of your sales letter, he is slammed with a surprise offer.

You tell him, “Want my product for only $27? I’ll slash a huge chunk off the price if you tell 2 friends about my website!”

What do you think is going to happen?

What would you do if you are your prospect?

Would you purchase for $97 or $27 (and 2 friends)?

You’d obviously go for the $27 offer right?

Now imagine that about 99% of your prospects who really want your product choose the $27 option.

What would happen to your website traffic? What would this mean to your online sales? How much would your revenue increase?

You do the Math!

Now, it’s actually pretty simple to set up a mechanism like this to increase the sales of your product not to mention your website traffic. If you’ve had some experience creating your own sales letter, setting up your website, etc, you should take no longer than 30 minutes (or even less) to set up something like this.

Here, let me offer you a free “Tell Your Friend” viral marketing script that lets you give your referrers an incentive bonus after they tell their friends about your website:-

http://www.traffictimebomb.com/tyf.zip

There are no gimmicks, no rituals, no voodoo chanting, no blood sacrifice, no email addresses and no cash required to download that script. It’s absolutely free.

Now what if you want to exponentially speed up the viral process of your visitors telling their friends who in turn tell more friends and so on, perpetually?

You simply add another element to this already powerful viral twist – the element of Time!

Have you watched the horror movie “The Ring”? If you have, then you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Time (Deadline) + Irresistible Incentive to pass on the Viral Message = Nuclear Explosion of your Marketing Virus!

Simply tell your visitors that they have only a certain number of days to get their friends to visit your website or else you’ll take away your incentive bonuses forever. But they still get to purchase your product at that special discounted price, of course, as a gesture of goodwill.

Orbital Power Action Saws

August 6th, 2010

If truth to be told, not many power tools take as much abuse as the orbital action reciprocating saw. Even before its first use, the saw is most likely to get dirty and stay that way coming out of the box. Plumbers, carpenters, electricians and remodelers rely on the reciprocating saw to perform tasks tat are foreign to other power tool. The newest of the carded saws cut more forcefully, yet they’re easier to handle, transport and adjust.

When one cuts with a reciprocating saw, it’s usually about cut speed, a function of strokes per minute, stroke geometry and stroke length. During a recent test, the Milwaukee 6523-21, Makita JR3050T, Hilti, porter cable and Hitachi models feature orbital action, designed to improve cutting speed. Normally selected with a switch or even a rotating dial, the setting makes this ’swing action’ more aggressive by featuring an up-and-down motion of the blade. Orbital action is hardly recommended when steel-cutting or when you desire precise cuts.

To see the difference between orbital action and straight, testers bored a whole through one standard blade and threaded the blade with a fiber-optic light. With the normal stroke, a basic back-and-forth motion was achieved. The orbital action accomplishes a lift-and-cut motion that aids to pull sawdust right out of the blade Kerf as it exposes fresh stock for more rapid cutting.

During the recent test, Hilti, Makita and Milwaukee orbital action saws cut twice as fast -through the laminated-veneer lumber than did the tools without this orbital action.

The best overall in orbital action saws is the Makita JR3070CT for $175. This orbital cutting saw is second in smoothness only to the Milwaukee 6523-21. It has a beautiful thumbwheel speed selector as well as variable-speed trigger combination. The lever of four-position and orbital-selector allows you to choose a vast range from the straight to orbital blade action, as the shoe-adjustment lever is simple and effective in its use. Like the Bosch, the auto-ejecting change in blade and user-friendly grip of rubber around the blade holder is featured. The Milwaukee 6523-21 for $190 is another favorite among power tool enthusiasts.

The Internet has information on various money-saving deals and promotions on Orbital Action Saws. Online stores offers discount power tools online specializing in Makita, Bosch, Milwaukee, Hitachi and Delta affordable power tools and accessories. Along with friendly, professional customer service, there is free shipping on orders over $99, with secured and hacker-safe certified transactions as well as same day shipping.
